We are a group of young people who want to be changed by God so that we can change the world. This is the mission: to seek Him with all of our hearts, to be set on fire for Him, to grow stronger in our walk with Him, and to reach those who are being oppressed by the powers of darkness.
This group is for young people, and it is also led by young people. We want to see our generation rise up from the complacency we have fallen into. We want to shine like the stars in this crooked and perverse generation, holding fast to the Word of Life. (Philippians 2:15-16)
Generation Jacob’s meetings are held at Rhema Covenant Church, but we are not a ministry of Rhema Covenant Church. We welcome youth of all denominations and Christian backgrounds. We want to see the Bride of Christ unified through our ministry.
Why “Generation Jacob“?
The name Generation Jacob was inspired by Psalm 24:6, “This is Jacob, the generation of those who seek Him, who seek Your face.” We want to see our generation become the generation of Jacob: earnestly seeking the Lord, stirring ourselves up to take hold of Him (Isaiah 64:7), and not letting go. We want to be so stubborn in our pursuit of Jesus, that we will cling to Him till the very end. It was after Jacob wrestled with God that God changed him. In the same way, we want to be changed by God, because it is only after we encounter Him that we can change the world.
What is satanic oppression, and why are we fighting it?
In the world we live in today, there are so many groups of people who are popping up and labeling themselves as “oppressed people groups.” It seems like every month there’s a new cause, or protest, or oppressed community. When the Lord planted the idea for Generation Jacob in my heart, I asked Him who and what our mission should be about; and the answer He gave was, “What about My oppressed people?”
Instantly I saw visions of young girls starving themselves because they had believed the lie that they weren’t beautiful the way God created them. I saw people, young and old, deciding to end their life because they had been told they were worthless. I thought of the millions of babies who had been aborted. There flashed into my mind pictures of children being stolen and exploited, lost in the dark world of human trafficking. And the Jewish people, persecuted by all the surrounding nations for no rational reason.
All these groups of people, the thousands and millions of them, are oppressed people groups. They are being tortured and destroyed and enslaved by Satan, the enemy of God and accuser of the brethren. Satan knows that the best way to hurt the heart of God is to hurt His children. His purpose is to steal, kill, and destroy us. He takes pleasure in stealing the innocence of a child, in murdering unborn children, in destroying our futures. He is the oppressor of so many, but too often we fail to recognize his hand at work. God is at work in our world, yes! but Satan is also hard at work, using his limited time to pull us away from God and enslave us with his bondage.
As believers, we are commanded to call out evil for what it is! We are to expose darkness to the light! So when the Lord put this burden upon my heart, I knew where He wanted us to fight. Our mission is to bring freedom to the captives, true freedom that can only be found in Jesus Christ. We are not just trying to treat the symptoms. We are choosing to look past the surface that we may see what is really going on beneath. As bearers of the name of Jesus, we have been equipped to fight in this spiritual battle. Our war is not with flesh and blood, but with spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. (Ephesians 6:12)
